You know what they say… the key to a healthy body is a healthy mind.
I have to agree with this as I spend a fair bit of my time being active through various activities such as swimming, cycling, surfing, etc and eating healthy food as much as possible. For me, there is a strong correlation between being positive/feeling great and being healthy.
And this got me thinking; do you apply the same commitment to your health and happiness to that of having an enjoyable career?
Aside from your health and your loved ones, your career is probably the most important aspect of your life. Working will account for a significant part of your time on earth as you spend on average just over 90,000 hours at work, according a 2011 report by Psychology Today.
Keeping this in mind, some of us are aware or focused on having a healthy lifestyle and supporting family and friends however do we spend the time to think about applying the same approach to our careers?
In my experience from my early career and through experiences with my clients, most of us don’t think about our careers until we are required to react to a sudden situation or build up of frustration that has reached boiling point. Rarely do we stop to reflect and think pro-actively about the health of our careers and what we could be doing to progress and maintain a positive sense of happiness in our time spent at work.
Now I am not suggesting you are required to spend 30 minutes a day or 5 sessions a week on your career, however, changing your mindset and applying a proactive approach to improve or develop your work can lead to a healthy career and thus a healthier lifestyle.
Exercising Your Career is thus about taking positive steps to having a career where you are proud to say what you do, waking up and enjoying going to work and thus improving your career well being and your personal health along the way.
This blog has been inspired by my family, friends, managers/colleagues and everyone I have helped along the way, as well as my personal challenges and experiences. I am passionate about helping people, career development, sharing success stories and empowering people to be become the best they can be to ensure they are spending their working hours in a positive, enjoyable and of course, healthy environment.
I hope to see you back here soon.
